Virudhunagar District to Host Annual Bird Census on December 27-28

The Department of Forests is inviting students and volunteers to participate in the annual bird census scheduled for December 27 and 28 across Virudhunagar district.

R. Murugan, Deputy Director of the Srivilliputtur Meghamalai Tiger Reserve, announced that the census will focus on water birds and will take place at 21 locations, including Rajapalayam, Devadanam, Srivilliputtur, Watrap, Kovilar Dam, Periyar Dam, Koomapatti, Veragasumudram, Kullursandhai, Aruppukottai, Ulakudi, Irukkangudi, Vemabakottai Dam, Sankarapandiyapuram, Kottaiyoor, and Thayilpatti.

This important exercise will help track both local and migratory bird species, especially those arriving for breeding purposes.

Students from schools and colleges, as well as members of local volunteer organizations, are encouraged to join. To register, they can contact the Deputy Director’s office at 04563-260565 or Sivakasi Forest Range Officer Pooventhan at 84890-54853.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation from the Department of Forests.
