The Weminuche Audubon Society is inviting the public to attend its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Community United Methodist Church, located at 434 Lewis St.

The evening program, titled “Birds and Energy,” will be presented by Martin Ogle, a naturalist and energy educator with more than 40 years of experience. Ogle will explore the relationship between birds and energy, highlighting how avian biology, behavior, and migration offer insights into broader energy and environmental issues.

Birds are among the most energy-intensive animals on the planet, with the highest body temperatures in the animal kingdom, unique physical adaptations, and extraordinary long-distance migrations. Ogle’s presentation will examine avian life through the lens of energy and explain how these natural systems intersect with human energy use.

The program will also address how the National Audubon Society is linking energy development, bird conservation, climate change, and other modern environmental challenges. Attendees will learn about energy-related adaptations in birds and the steps being taken to reduce the impact of human energy systems on bird populations.

Participants are asked to enter the church through the east-side entrance off the parking lot. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for socializing, with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Donations of nonperishable food items for the Community United Methodist Church food bank are encouraged and appreciated.

Ogle will deliver his presentation via Zoom, and the program will also be available online. Those interested in attending virtually can request a link by emailing Herb Grover at [email protected]
